Today morning, Taita Taveta University Management hosted a consultative meeting with the elected leaders of Taita Taveta County to discuss on the planned Taita Taveta University Endowment Fund Launch.
Present during the meeting were H.E Andrew Mwadime (Governor), Hon. Johnes Mwaruma (Senator), Hon. Peter Mbogho Shake (MP, Mwatate), Hon. Abdi Chome (MP, Voi), Hon. Danson Mwashako (MP, Wundanyi) and Hon. John Bwire (MP, Taveta).
The endowment fund which is headed by Rtd. Major Madsen Madoka aims in sourcing funds from well-wishers to support students’ scholarships and various University projects that will be game changers in the growth of Taita Taveta University. The honourable members agreed to embrace the noble idea to support needy students across the country in their quest for higher education.
His Excellency Andrew Mwadime thanked the University management team for starting this initiative and assured his government of total support to ensure that it is successful. The Governor said that through this idea many students from poor backgrounds within the county will be able to join the University to pursue courses of their choice.
Senator Johnes Mwaruma said that through his foundation ‘Johnes Mwaruma Foundation’ which is already supporting many students in the University, he would be able to channel more funds to the kitty to support the growth of the University.
Honourable Peter Mbogho who is the area member of parliament challenged his colleagues to embrace the idea of supporting the University and ensuring the student numbers are increased in order to ensure that the University continues to grow as the county’s higher education icon.
Honourable Eng. Abdi Chome – Voi Member of Parliament affirmed his commitment to supporting the University Management in their quest to develop the University and increase the students’ numbers. He called on his colleagues to establish a strategy for fundraising for the fund kitty before the launch in order to lure more investors to support the kitty.
Honourable Danson Mwashako shared experiences that he has had with the University through the strong partnership with the Undugu mentorship organization. He promised to present a motion in parliament that will address Public|Private Universities students’ enrolment through KUCCPS.
Honourable Hon. John Bwire reiterated his colleague’s total support of the University Endowment Fund, he challenged the University to engage them through sub-county activities to market the University’s programmes.
The meeting also discussed the problem of water in the University and its environs; the Acting Managing Director of TAVEVO – Mr. Richard Kibengo assured the meeting that the company is working towards connecting the University to the Mzima Spring by September this year.
