  • Keroche founder and CEO Tabitha Karanja has announced that she would be vying for the Nakuru Senatorial seat in the 2022 general election.

Speaking on Tuesday, October 19, Karanja stated that she had consulted with her close friends and felt it was time to join politics.

The renowned entrepreneur noted that she will push for the enactment of laws that would curb unfair business practices having been a victim over the years.

She added that for a long time, she had shied off from politics to concentrate on running the business.

"I have new business ideas which can spur this country ahead economically and when the time is right I will name my political vehicle," Karanja told the Standard.

Karanja did not, however, disclose which party she would be vying on in the coming polls.

Some of the political aspirants who are eyeing the same seat include; former Nakuru senator James Mungai, Mike Weche, Andrew Yatich, former Nakuru Level 5 Hospital medical superintendent Dr Joseph Mburu and Daniel Kimani

Currently, the senatorial seat is held by Susan Kihika who has declared interest in unseating Lee Kinyanjui as Nakuru governor.

At the same time, Karanja requested President Uhuru Kenyatta to lift the 10pm to 4am curfew.

She noted that the curfew had adversely affected the country, especially the hospitality and transport sectors.

“The Ministry of Health has managed to contain the spread of Covid-19 mainly due to the ongoing vaccination exercise and its time the curfew was lifted,” she stated.
