Carla ...Moderator

Colombia was the host country for this year’s Environmental Day 2020

The theme was “Commitment to Protect The Environment”

Good morning; Thanks for the invitation,

The Andaki means “a Path with a steep” or just Andaki, Path of Life

Indians used to live in that area.....currently Spanish Colombia groups live there.

Researches done through several Expeditions have found 47 New species on top of the current 2700 Species in Colombia.

The more we save nature, the more we save ourselves”

Juan Pablo Méndez

From the Andaki documentary research, Juan Pablo Méndez gained experience in working with the nature of the communities that inhabit the Andaki.

According to 2016 peace Agreement??????? Search-colombian 2016 peace agreement?

“The greatest satisfaction was to learn about Indigenous people inhabiting Colombia”.

This is a case study in Kenya as well where the Masai leaving around Masai Mara for years have been considered Indigenous due to their cultural practices and lifestyle. The Uniqueness of the Masai People is that they've left their cultures unaltered for years;e.g bead makingInitiation and food.

The entire movie is a Documentary ‘full of nature’

Lessons drawn from the film Relations

Juan Pablo Méndez was able to make new friends. Movies should feature people’s stories.

“The very first process of protecting something is to know about it”

Juan went ahead stating that people should sacrifice their individual efforts in the protection of their own cultures and Diversity.

“It’s not a matter of money;but it’s all about the will of the people to protect our indigenous culture”.

Marce Enrich

From a research carried out by Marce Enrich on the Amazon,Marce concluded that

“There is global importance of the Amazon region for Africa in particular”

this was an analysis from the fact that Africa and South America was joined Long years ago; a geological evidence on Jigsaw Fitting

On Protection of Environment,Marce Enrich stated that

“There is a healthy interconnection between the health of the ecosystem and the resilience of the people’s survival”

“We must save our planet’s ecosystem”

Following a question by an attendee on.....,Marce Enrich said that:

“Having communities both indigenous and non-indigenous in the effort towards the protection of our biodiversity.”

This is a superb holistic approach to solving our Environmental problems.

From a question ......by a Nairobi Atendee,Joyce,Marce Enrich said that

“The UN Offices in Nairobi should be a catalyst for initiating joint progress in Africa’s Biodiversity”

Prof.Christopher Gordon

“Similarities of Africans and South Americans are very crucial”.Hence the need to collaborate more.

According to Prof.Christopher Gordon, challenges affecting the environment are:

v  Loss of biodiversity

v  Contamination of freshwater Bodies

“Indigenous people have rich appreciation.”

The new generation doesn't seem to take care of nature.

“Future Generations should be enlightened to be custodians of nature”.

On the role of women in the conservation of the environment, Prof.Christopher Gordon argues that:

“Women should be empowered since they are custodians to childcare”.

He went on stating that, women need to access resources which will eventually, spearhead  programmes towards protection of our biodiversity.

“Powers against biodiversity are very powerful and a Menace”.

We, therefore, need to have platforms that make communities come together in the effort to protecting our biodiversity.

From a question posted by an attendee on “Children grow up to become politicians, Economists, legislators; what of Environmentalists?

“It comes from sensitisation of children; it's theoretical children have no access to forests”

Just like the way Colombia is putting more funds to ecological programs, Our governments, therefore, need to appreciate and invest more in science education.

Closing Remarks by Carla Barahona, Ambassador of Colombia to South Africa???

“Colombia is open for all countries to visit and share our Country’s exciting experience”

Thank You.
