Australian Pavilion proves vital to creating global connections with more than 1.5 million visitors

31 March, 2022 - Dubai, UAE

The Australian Pavilion reflects on the success of Expo 2020 Dubai as a global platform to build connections and explore opportunities with the UAE and the world.

Integral to Australia’s post-COVID economic and social recovery, the Australian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai has promoted the best of the nation’s innovation, capability and culture, through thousands of events, performances and programming initiatives.

Justin McGowan, Australia’s Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai, said that Expo had exceeded expectations.

“The journey to Expo 2020 Dubai was undoubtedly challenging as the pandemic brought the world to a halt. We had high hopes that the event would provide opportunities to reignite Australia’s connections with the global community, and we have been blown away by what has been made possible thanks to the support of the UAE,” he said.

“Throughout the past six months, the Australian Pavilion has welcomed more than 1.5 million in-person guests, including more than 7,000 business and industry guests. We appreciate the hard-work and dedication of pavilion staff members and the 71 pavilion partners.”

Mr McGowan said the relationships and experiences forged from these visits are set to benefit the nation moving forward.

“Australia is confident that the possibilities we have seeded during the six months of Expo will be realised, particularly for businesses in the agriculture, food and beverage, advanced manufacturing and healthcare sectors. We have seen 28 MoUs and commercial agreements made.

“The UAE is the gateway to an important region and the world for Australia and one of our long-standing trade and business partners,” Mr McGowan said.

“We also encourage visitors who have had a chance to see Australia’s welcoming hospitality and diverse culture through the visitor experience, to come ‘down under’ and visit our spectacular country.”

The Australian Pavilion is working closely with Expo 2020 Dubai and the UAE education sector to reimagine the pavilion space in what’s set to be District 2020.

“Looking beyond March, our hope is for the Australian Pavilion to continue being a hub for connection, collaboration and cultural exchange,” concluded Mr McGowan.
