Even before cases of COVID-19 were reported on the continent, Africa had already faced negative impacts on its economy. With the new travel restrictions as well as the closure of businesses, we can only predict that the situation will worsen.

Being one of China’s largest trading partners, the slowdown of production in China led to an inevitable decrease in demand for raw materials from Africa. Furthermore, due to Africa’s reliance on exports from China, the price of commodities across the continent skyrocketed. With the new travel restrictions, closure of businesses as well as extreme lockdown measures taken by countries across the globe, we can only predict that the situation will worsen.
